Description
This is the ultimate Gruyère lover box. It contains everything you need to go straight into Swiss cheese heaven, Gruyère style.
- Swiss Gruyère AOP, 6 months matured, raw milk, ca. 200g
This is the baby of the Gruyère product family. It is smooth and aromatic and will convince even the most discerning palate. It combines its distinctive, balanced flavour with a delicious soft body. - Swiss Gruyère AOP Réserve, 12 months matured, raw milk, ca. 200g
The teenager. This one boasts a full-bodied and fruity flavour. Light yellow in colour, it is saltier than a younger Gruyère AOP. It has a firm, slightly crumbly texture and a full flavour that lingers in the mouth. - Swiss Gruyère AOP Sélection Rolf Beeler, 18 months matured, raw milk, ca. 200g
Yep, this one is a real grown-up. It is full-bodied and highly aromatic with fruity notes. Dark yellow in colour, this cheese is firm yet crumbly with a slightly grainy texture and saltiness that delivers beautifully. It’s often quoted as the world’s best Gruyère. We certainly agree!
Beverage matching ideas
Three different ages require 3 different drinks, that’s for sure. We recommend a fresh white wine like a Chardonnay with the young Gruyère, a medium strength beer with the Reserve and a light red wine with character (think premium Pinot Noir for example) for the Rolf Beeler version.
How we wrap your cheese
Freshness of your cheese is important to us. That’s why – unless noted differently in the description – we package all of our cheese in vacuum bags to help minimize travel impacts. However, we understand that some of you prefer cheese being wrapped in cheese wrap. This option is available to you for a small fee (it takes more time to package the cheese this way, that’s why we charge you a little bit more). Unless specifically noted in the description, all cheese will generally have a best before date of at least 14 days, vacuum packed cheese generally about 2 months. Please note that with cheese this is often only a guidance date and does not necessarily mean the cheese will be of lesser quality beyond that date. In fact many soft(er) cheeses are best kept close to or until after that date for maximum ripeness.
How the cheese gets to you
All Alpine Express cheese are shipped in environmentally friendlier, insulated cardboard boxes. The cheese is bolstered with recycled packing paper & kept cold with food grade ice gel pack(s). It is shipped the fastest possible service, usually Australia Post Express. See Australia Post’s Express Delivery Estimator (origin is ‘Brisbane Metro’). From time to time we may choose a different shipping provider depending on speed of service, costs and other factors.
Unless noted otherwise, all cheese boxes are sent on Mondays with an order cut-off time at 8pm (Sydney time) that day before. You will receive a tracking number to follow your parcel’s progress.

Christian Baker (verified owner) –
This Gruyere is exactly what you’d get in a Migros in Switzerland. It’s utterly amazing! I’m half Swiss, and so pleased to be able to get this in Australia and experience just a little bit of “home”.
The service from The Red Cow is also top notch – lots of communication, quick shipping, and the cheese always arrives in a cooled pack in perfect condition.
Thank you Tom et al 🙂
